Black pepper extract standardised to 95% piperine is the most widely used bioavailability enhancer in the supplement industry, and it appears in the majority of commercial curcumin products for a straightforward reason: curcumin alone is poorly absorbed, and piperine measurably improves that.
Use levels are very small. The conventional ratio is around 100:1 curcumin to piperine — roughly 5 mg of piperine 95% against a 500 mg curcumin dose. Its utility is not confined to curcumin; it is used alongside a range of poorly absorbed botanical actives.
